Colorado E-Bike Tax Credit
Commencing April 1, 2024, residents of Colorado can benefit from an e-bike tax credit provided by the State of Colorado. Eligible Coloradans will enjoy a $450 reduction on qualifying e-bike purchases directly at the point of sale, available through participating retailers statewide. It's important to note that not all retailers are part of this initiative, so individuals are advised to verify participation and the availability of the $450 discount with respective retailers.
Under this program, Colorado residents are entitled to receive the discount for the purchase of one (1) e-bike per calendar year from a participating retailer. It's essential to highlight that the purchaser remains liable for the full payment of sales tax on the e-bike, irrespective of whether the discount surpasses the bike's retail price.
Eligible E-Bikes
Not all e-bikes offered in the market qualify for the e-bike tax credit discount. Prior to purchase, please consult with the retailer to ensure that the e-bike you intend to buy satisfies the following criteria to be eligible for the discount:
Must adhere to independent UL certification standards, with certification to UL 2849, UL 2271, or EN 15194. Typically, UL-certified e-bikes display a UL certification emblem on the bike battery.
Must be a brand-new e-bike.
Must feature an electric motor with a maximum power of 750 watts and must not be powered by gasoline.
Must possess two or three wheels and fully functional pedals.
May belong to any e-bike class as defined by the State of Colorado, including:
Class 1: Providing electric assistance only when the rider pedals, ceasing assistance at 20 mph.
Class 2: Offering electric assistance regardless of pedaling, ceasing assistance at 20 mph.
Class 3: Providing electric assistance only while the rider pedals, ceasing assistance at 28 mph.
May include adaptive e-bikes.
There are no specified minimum or maximum purchase prices.
